Buy AI Scan pages

What this does

Buys a pack of AI Scan pages and credits them to your account.

This guide covers the purchase and nothing else — photographing pages, reading your balance, working through the results and restarting a queue that has paused are all Area B (→ B8, B9).

Before you start

  • Pro has to be active on this account already. Without it, every way into the pack sheet opens the Pro paywall instead, so you can’t pay for pages the server would refuse to credit. Activate Pro first (→ K1, K3).
  • You have to be signed in, with the account Pro is on (→ K7).
  • Know what one page is. One page is one image — one camera shot, one picture from your gallery, or one page of a PDF. The app’s own confirmation puts it as one page per image. A paper logbook photographed as 40 images is 40 pages, however many flights those images hold.
  • You need a connection.

Steps

  1. Open the pack sheet, titled Buy AI Scan Pages: tap the page-count chip in the toolbar of the Scans screen. The chip shows how many pages you have left. (There are other ways in — see below. None of them is in Settings.)
  2. Check the price on the tiles. Each names a number of pages. On a phone, tablet or Mac, the gold figure beside it comes from the store, and that’s what you’ll be charged. On Windows and Linux the tile reads Shown at checkout, and the price is on the checkout page in your browser.
  3. Tap the tile for the pack you want. On iPhone, iPad, Android or a Mac, your store’s purchase sheet opens; confirm there. On Windows or Linux, the checkout page opens in your browser (the sheet says Web checkout opens in your browser. Pages credit to this account once payment clears.); pay there, then return to the app.
  4. On a phone, tablet or Mac, stay on the sheet for a moment. It watches your balance for about 25 seconds and closes itself when the pages land.

How to tell it worked

Your page balance has gone up by the size of the pack. The quickest place to check is the page-count chip in the Scans screen’s toolbar — that screen opens straight from the dashboard. The same figure is on the chip in the capture screen’s toolbar, and in the N of M pages remaining line the app shows before it scans a batch (→ B8). There’s no row in Settings and no tile on the dashboard itself that shows it.

On a phone, tablet or Mac, the sheet closing by itself is the other sign. On the web, the pages arrive once the payment clears, and the chip shows the new figure next time you look.

If something goes wrong

Messages appear inside the sheet, under the packs, and stay until you do something else.

Other ways into the pack sheet

All of them are inside AI Scan, not in Settings:

  • the Buy AI Scan pages cart icon in the toolbar of the Scans screen, or of the AI Scan capture screen;
  • the page-count chip beside that cart icon — it’s on both toolbars;
  • the Buy pages button on the AI Scan paused — out of pages banner.

Pages, packs and prices

  • Pages never expire, and they aren’t per logbook — they sit on your account.
  • Pro comes with 10 pages once, ever. Re-activating Pro doesn’t top them up; a pack is how you get more (→ K1).
  • No price or pack size appears in this guide. Both are on screen when you buy, and the packs on sale differ between a phone and a desktop — the sizes on one aren’t the sizes on the other. Go by the tiles in front of you, not by numbers from somewhere else, the website included.

The two recovery buttons, and which one is yours

  • RESTORE — on a phone, tablet or Mac only. Asks your app store to look up purchases it has a record of.
  • CLAIM WEB PURCHASE — for a pack bought through the browser that never landed. It looks for purchases made against your account’s email address and credits them. On success: Claimed 1 purchase (+N pages).

A failed scan does not cost you a page

The app says so: a session with a failed page shows A failed page is refunded (or Failed pages are refunded for more than one) on the Scans screen, and a failed page in the upload queue shows A failed page is refunded — check your remaining pages. Both state the policy; they aren’t a receipt for that page. The refund happens on our server, and the app can’t confirm any single page’s refund landed — so check your remaining pages rather than expecting a credit notice.

When a page is scanned straight away, it’s only charged once it has been read successfully, so a failure has nothing to refund. When it’s queued, the page is taken when the image is queued, and refunded if the scan fails. Of the six failure messages a scan can come back with, only one names the refund — Scan failed: the page waited too long to be processed and was refunded — but all six are refunded the same way.

Running out of pages mid-queue doesn’t cost anything either: the queue pauses with AI Scan paused — out of pages and waits, with Buy pages and I’ve topped up on the banner (→ B9).

Refunds

Unused pages from a purchase can be refunded. The policy — the window, the condition that none of that pack’s pages have been spent, and the separate re-credit for a scan that came back unusable — is at aviatorarchive.com/refund. Read it there, so you’re reading the current version.
