The free 100-hour limit
What this does
Tells you which hours count toward the free logbook’s one limit, what happens at 75 and at 100 of them, and what carries on working after that.
It also shows you where to read your own position.
Before you start
- A profile is open and has flights in it.
- This applies to a logbook without Pro. With Pro there’s no cap at all (→ K1).
- The cap is per logbook, not per device and not per account. Two profiles on one device each get their own 100 hours, because a profile is a person — that’s how a household shares a tablet.
- Every flight hour in the logbook counts toward it, however it got there: flights you enter by hand, imported history, flights brought in by AI Scan and Previous Experience. Simulator sessions and drafts don’t. The exact list is under Which hours count, below.
Steps
- Open the logbook list. Between 75 and 100 counted hours a gold banner sits at the top of it, with UPGRADE and DISMISS.
- Check the number in the banner. It’s your counted-hours total, and it goes up as you log more. The same total is also on the stats bar at the top of the logbook list (→ D2); if the two don’t match, see Which hours count, below.
- Tap DISMISS to clear the banner. It stays gone until you close the app, and is back the next time you launch it.
- At 100 counted hours, tapping Add Flight — the FAB on the logbook list, the Quick Action card on the dashboard, or the button on the desktop logbook screen — opens Upgrade to Pro instead of the entry wizard.
How to tell it worked
You can see the block coming: the banner appears somewhere past 75 counted hours, and Add Flight stops opening the wizard at 100. If you’re blocked and you delete a flight, the block lifts at once — the count is recalculated every time the logbook changes, so there’s nothing to restart and nothing to wait for.
If something goes wrong
| What you see | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The banner’s number doesn’t match the stats bar | The banner counts only hours that count toward the cap (see Which hours count, below). The stats bar’s Total Time also includes simulator time | Nothing is wrong. Use the banner’s figure for how close you are to the cap |
| The banner is back after you dismissed it | Dismissal lasts until you close the app, not forever | Dismiss it again, or upgrade |
| Add Flight opens the upgrade screen and you have Pro | The app hadn’t finished working out which tier this logbook is on, or Pro is on a different logbook or account | Open Profile Settings → ACCOUNT & DATA → Subscription Status and read what it says, then follow K3 or K5. Don’t buy a second time |
| The wizard opens even though you’re over 100 hours | Right after the app starts, before it has worked out which tier this logbook is on, it lets you through | Nothing |
| You imported a logbook and Add Flight now opens the upgrade screen | Imported hours count toward the cap, so an import of 100 hours or more reaches it straight away | Upgrade to Pro (K3). Until then, everything you imported stays readable, editable and exportable |
| Next on the import wizard’s first screen opens the upgrade screen | The logbook is at the cap, and a logbook import adds flights. Importing aircraft, people, organizations or airports isn’t affected | Upgrade to Pro (K3) |
Which hours count
Every flight hour in the logbook, however it got there:
| Counted | |
|---|---|
| Flights you enter by hand in this app | |
| Anything imported from a CSV or Excel file | (→ B2) |
| Flights brought in by AI Scan | They arrive as an import (→ B8) |
| Previous Experience / carry-forward opening balances | (→ B7) |
The count leaves out:
| Not counted | Why |
|---|---|
| Simulator and training-device sessions | They aren’t flight time anywhere else in the app either |
| Drafts you haven’t finished | They aren’t flights yet (→ C3) |
| Deleted flights | Deleting one drops your count immediately |
So a pilot who imports a logbook of 100 hours or more reaches the cap as soon as the import finishes. Nothing is broken when that happens, and nothing imported is locked.
What still works at the cap
Everything except adding new flights — the Add Flight wizard, and starting a new logbook import, which opens Upgrade to Pro too. An import that was already under way when you crossed 100 hours finishes; it’s the next one that stops. Nothing you’ve already logged is ever removed or hidden by the cap. Editing and finishing flights you already have is never blocked, and neither is importing aircraft, people, organizations or airports, exporting CSV / TSV / Excel / the ZIP, backup, restore (a Merge only brings back this logbook’s own flights), sync, currency, documents, the Hangar, the Directory or analytics. PDF and the FAA 8710-1 export are Pro, but they’re Pro at one hour as much as at a thousand — the cap has nothing to do with them (→ K1).
The banner names your own total
The banner between 75 and 100 counted hours reads like this: You have logged 82.3 hours — nearing the 100-hour limit on the free logbook. Upgrade to Pro for unlimited logging, plus PDF export, regulatory forms, AI Scan (10-page preview) and cockpit capture. “82.3” is only an example. Your banner shows your own counted hours, worked out each time it appears.
Where the same banner turns up saying something else
The sync screen carries the same gold banner with a different sentence — Cloud-less sync is fully unlocked! Consider upgrading to Pro to support the developer. Every pilot without Pro sees it, whatever their hours. It isn’t a warning, and sync isn’t about to stop: sync is free.
